NSBE PDC 2020 Cancelled
Dear NSBE Family,
By now you should be aware that because of the outbreak of COVID-19, NSBE’s 46th Annual Convention has been postponed until August 19–23, 2020, in its original host city of San Antonio, Texas. As a result of that postponement, and related factors, the
Professionals Executive Board (PEB) has made the decision, with great sadness, to cancel the 2020 NSBE Professional Development Conference (PDC), which had been scheduled for August 12–16, 2020 in Miami, Florida.
We place the highest value on the safety of our membership, your families and your communities. Over the past few weeks, NSBE’s leadership has constantly monitored communications from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) regarding health risks pertaining to COVID-19. NSBE professionals always seeks to provide the best resources for the professional development of our members. We are aware that this announcement is discouraging
and will raise many questions. Our PDC is the premier conference for NSBE Professionals, providing networking opportunities, professional development workshops and information onvarious cutting-edge technologies. It is also
a place where our corporate and government partners have opportunities to engage with us to provide training as well as employment opportunities. The PEB researched several alternatives before making the tough decision to cancel
the 2020 PDC. Looking at the uncertainty of the public health crisis, andconsidering the situation broadly, we realized that it would put a severe strain on the Society to attempt to hold two major conferences — including our
Technical Professionals Conference (TPC) — within the same month.
Know that I am deeply saddened by the need to cancel this event, however, these unfortunate circumstances do give us an opportunity to explore the virtual avenues by which we can connect with our members, partners and affiliates during these challenging
times. Our dedication to providing professional development experiences for our membership remains strong. We are committed to adding opportunities throughout the year as we plan to make the 2021 NSBE Professional Development
Conference in Dallas, Texas, a successful and transformational event.
COVID-19 presents a unique, global challenge, and the decisions we make now will have a huge effect on how NSBE fares during this pandemic. Decisions about events such as the PDC and the Annual Convention will determine our positive progress through this
storm. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through our nextmoves. Please continue to check your email for answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) and for updates about the refund/credit process and
other important matters.
